Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA investigators arrested Sean Egan, 29, of Claverack on animal cruelty charges. On Friday, February 4, CGHS/SPCA received numerous calls that a dog had wandered onto Route 66 in Claverack. The callers claimed that the dog was in horrendous condition and appeared to be ill. Investigator Andrea Walker responded to the call to find a Bullmastiff, on Route 66 as described by the callers. The dog (“Dutchess”) was immediately brought back to CGHS/SPCA where Dr. Danielle Sand, VMD examined her. Dr. Sand found Dutchess to be emaciated and to have mange, skin infections, a respiratory infection, ear infections and eye infections that have gone untreated so long that she may have permanent blindness. As the investigation progressed, the owner was found and issued an appearance ticket. Mr. Egan is due in Claverack Town Court on Tuesday, February 15 to answer the charge on animal cruelty. Mr. Egan faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
