The Stockport Police Department has arrested Daniel Wood, 30, and Leslie Simpson, 36, on animal cruelty charges.
Stockport Police Officer Thomas Lovette arrested both individuals and charged them with animal cruelty under Agriculture and Market Law Article 26, Section 353 (Failure to Provide Proper Substance). If convicted, both defendants will face up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
Mr. Wood and Ms. Simpson are charged with failing to provide sufficient food and drink for their dog Tetris, a 3-year-old pit bull mix. Tetris was seized by Stockport PD when they found him horribly thin and without food or water. Tetris was brought to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA where he was examined by Jerry Bilinski, DVM and was diagnosed with severe emaciation.
“We would like to commend the work performed by the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Town of Stockport, Stockport Supervisor Matt Murell, and Stockport Police Chief John Funk and his entire department for their diligence on this animal cruelty case,” said Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA President Ron Perez. “We are certain that, had they not intervened quickly, Tetris would certainly have perished with the heat wave that has moved into this area.”
