Penny’s Story…

After being abandoned at night in the dead of winter, Penny wandered to the doorstep of what fortunately was a caring family. Horrified by the condition of this helpless creature, the neighbors
immediately brought her to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA. Our veterinary team was aghast by the severity of the dog’s mange. Because Penny had never received proper treatment for the mange, it spread through her body, causing secondary infections, open lesions, and the loss of nearly all her coat. After numerous veterinary examinations, extensive skin treatments, and several months of ongoing rehabilitation, Penny made a miraculous recovery. Even better, she found a family that will give her, love, compassion and safety for the rest of her life.

The former owner was arrested and convicted for animal cruelty.

Last time we checked in with Penny, she was doing great, and loving life with her new family.
