Lost and Found
Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA offers a “Lost and Found” service to help reunite pets with their families. By taking reports for both lost and found animals, each year we help dozens of pets get back to their rightful homes.
Please note, if you have lost or found a dog, you should contact your town’s dog control officer to file a lost report with him or her as well. You can find your local dog control officer by clicking on the link below.

Tips For Finding A Lost Pet
Look Around
- Take a slow drive or walk around the neighborhood, asking neighbors if they’ve seen your pet.
- Check under porches and ask neighbors to check in their garages or sheds, just in case your pet was accidentally locked in.
Make Some Calls
- Call all the animal control agencies, humane societies, and rescue groups in your area. One of them could very well have your pet or have been in contact with someone who does.
Create A Flyer
- Be sure to include your pet’s breed, sex, age, color, and identifying features, along with the location and time and date it was lost, on the poster.
- Insert a recent photo, if you have one.
- Provide your name and two phone numbers.
Post Your Flyers
Be liberal with notices about your lost pet, posting them (after asking permission) in:
- Veterinary practices
- Pet supply stores and pet grooming shops
- Gas stations, convenience markets, and grocery stores
- Post offices, libraries, and other high-traffic buildings
Don’t Give Up!
Pets are sometimes found months after being lost.
