Behind every healthy pet is someone who made a conscious choice: to get them vaccinated, treated, spayed or neutered, or simply seen in a timely manner. At CGHS/SPCA, that choice is made possible every day through the work of our low-cost veterinary clinic.

The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA is expanding and elevating its commitment to accessible care with the creation of the Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center—a new, state-of-the-art facility that will serve thousands of animals each year, regardless of their family incomes or circumstances.
Honoring Harold Grubin, M.D.
The late Harold Grubin, M.D., an internist and surgeon, was a Major in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served in the Philippines during combat operations in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He built a hospital from scratch in a rural part of the Philippine Islands, where servicemen injured in combat were brought for treatment. The hospital also provided medical care to Filipinos who previously had no access to a health facility.
After returning from the war, Dr. Grubin became a board-certified pathologist and the head of a hospital laboratory in New Jersey. His laboratory won many awards, and he installed new equipment that enabled it to provide low-cost and rapid testing, tissue diagnosis, bacteriology, parasitology, and other medical services to the community—much as CGHS/SPCA will now be able to provide for animals.
In honor of Dr. Grubin, his daughter Sharon has provided seed support to make it possible for CGHS/SPCA to build a state-of-the-art hospital, in-house clinic, and laboratory to assist pet owners with limited incomes.

Together, we’re preventing countless tragedies
It is a heart-wrenching reality when a family must surrender its pet because of a lack of funds for pet food or affordable veterinary care. Since 2008, CGHS/SPCA has provided free pet food to any family in need—no questions asked. On average, our shelter gives away more than 50,000 pounds of food each year.
CGHS/SPCA is now taking its next bold step with the opening of the Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center. The goal is simple: to keep pets in their homes, preventing them from being surrendered when families face financial hardship.

From preventive care to urgent interventions, this new clinic will provide vital services to both shelter animals and beloved pets from our surrounding community. With modern exam spaces, upgraded surgical suites and laboratory equipment, expanded wellness capacity, and an environment built to reduce fear and stress for animals, the Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center will serve as a hub of healing, mercy, and hope for animals large and small.
Whether it’s a puppy getting its first vaccinations, a senior cat needing dental work, or a stray dog receiving emergency care, it all starts with a door that’s open to everyone.

Healing after cruelty: a safe haven for the most vulnerable
The Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center will serve as a groundbreaking cruelty rehabilitation facility. It will feature dedicated isolation rooms for cats, dogs, and small pets, each designed to provide a quiet, disease-free, and tranquil environment for recovery.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology—including digital imaging, X-ray, ultrasound, and laboratory testing—the Grubin Center will make it possible to diagnose and treat victims of cruelty here on-site.
The Grubin Center will truly be a one-stop facility for healing, giving every mistreated animal the best chance to recover, rebuild trust, and begin a new life filled with kindness and tenderness.

The Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center isn’t solely about veterinary care—it is also about community. As part of this capital project, we will unveil a beautiful, permanent donor recognition board inside the new clinic.
You may also choose to sponsor a specific room or treatment area within the clinic, such as an exam room, recovery space, surgical suite, or the lobby. Name plates may be listed in your own name, in honor of a beloved pet or person, or in memory of a companion who has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

10’ x 5’ Dog Isolation Rooms — $10,000
5 available; 12” x 12” plaque. These rooms will be for CGHS dogs being treated for or recovering from serious injuries, surgeries, or acute medical conditions. They will also serve as the initial recovery area for dogs healing from cruelty and neglect.
Cat Isolation Enclosure Rooms — $25,000
2 available; 12” x 12” plaque. A safe, quiet place for treatment or recovery from serious injuries, surgeries, or acute medical conditions. Each room will accommodate up to twelve cats.
Surgery Room — $25,000
1 available; 12” x 12” plaque. The surgery room is where cherished animals are placed in the hands of the skilled veterinary team for the medical expertise they require.
Exam Rooms — $25,000
4 available; 12” x 12” plaque. CGHS animals, including victims of cruelty, will be examined here. The rooms will also serve pets from the public through low-cost veterinary services.
Treatment Room — $50,000
1 available; 12” x 12” plaque. Shelter animals will be treated here for injuries and illnesses, including fractures, wounds, dental needs, and various diseases.
Waiting Room — $100,000
1 available; 12” x 24” plaque. The sponsor will be acknowledged by an acrylic glass plaque prominently displayed in this hub of public activity.
X-Ray Machine and Table — $75,000
1 available; 12” x 12” plaque. State-of-the-art equipment for veterinarians to diagnose and treat animals in a non-invasive manner.
Dental System, Including Dental X-Ray — $60,000
1 available; 12” x 12” plaque. The goal is to offer dental care to all animals, regardless of how much the owner can pay.
New Cat Enclosures in Current Shelter — $2,400
12 available; 12” x 12” plaque. New Mason Company Raintree Cat Condos® will provide two-room enclosures for cats awaiting forever homes.
