The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (CGHS/SPCA) is excited to announce the opening of the Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center for animals. The new clinic offers blood, urine, and fecal testing for animals as well as examinations and surgery at a reduced cost to the owner.
The late Dr. Harold Grubin, an internist and surgeon, was a Major in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served in the Philippines during combat operations in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He built a hospital from scratch in a rural part of the Philippine Islands to which servicemen injured in combat were brought. The hospital also provided medical care to Filipinos who had not previously had a health facility. After returning from the war, Dr. Grubin became a board-certified pathologist and the head of the laboratory in a hospital in New Jersey. His laboratory won many awards. He installed new equipment that enabled the lab to provide low-cost and rapid testing, tissue diagnosis, bacteriology, parasitology, and other studies to the community, much like CGHS/SPCA will now be able to provide for animals.
In honor of Dr. Grubin, his daughter Sharon has made it possible for CGHS/SPCA to institute the in-house clinic and laboratory with state-of-the-art testing equipment to assist pet owners who have limited incomes. The Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center will enable the medical staff to efficiently diagnose infirmities that animals have and, in turn, allow them to be treated. This will ensure a higher medical standard for animals at the greatest risk of danger and will save lives.
“Having an in-house laboratory with the ability to offer life-saving testing through our low-cost clinic will increase the quality of life for animals that would otherwise have gone without proper treatment. We’re now happy to offer laboratory testing immediately as a service within our low-cost clinic,” said CGHS/SPCA President/CEO Ron Perez
The low-cost clinic also offers spay/neuter services, vaccinations, general health testing and treatment, flea/tick, preventive, parasite (worm) treatment, and diagnostics and treatment for illnesses as needed. For more information, please call (518) 828-6044 or email info@cghs.org.
