The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA opens its doors for dogs evacuating Hurricane Florence.
First, on behalf of the entire Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (CGHS/SPCA), our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people and animals affected by Hurricane Florence.
Since 2005 when Hurricane Katrina made history because of the devastation in her path, CGHS/SPCA has always opened its doors and found space for animals that have been displaced by natural disasters across the country. Currently, CGHS/SPCA has received five dogs from South Carolina due to their shelter being in the path of Hurricane Florence. All five dogs will be placed up for adoption when they are deemed healthy enough to go to a new home.
“We’re proud to help dogs that have been affected by Hurricane Florence. However, unrelated to the hurricane, we do have deep concerns about the physical condition of these five dogs upon their arrival at our facility. We are actively questioning the medical protocols and animal husbandry performed at the shelter that they came from,” said CGHS/SPCA President/Peace Officer/Cruelty Investigator Ron Perez.
All five dogs are described as sweet, gentle, and loving, and will be available for adoption when they are cleared by CGHS/SPCA’s veterinary team. People wishing to be preapproved for adoption can fill out an application in person or by visiting the shelter’s website at cghs.org.
